Therapist (1099 Contractor)

Therapy Cove is a fully virtual, trauma-informed practice serving Gen Z, Millennials, and beyond across PSYPACT states. We specialize in helping high-achieving, people-pleasing, anxious clients who carry intergenerational trauma, cultural pressure, and attachment wounds. Our work is warm, insight-oriented, culturally responsive, and deeply grounded in the belief that therapy is a place where cycle-breakers finally exhale.

We are expanding and looking for a skilled, compassionate therapist to join our team as an independent contractor (1099). This role is ideal for someone grounded, relational, clinically curious, and who loves diving into the deeper layers of trauma, identity, and attachment.

We welcome fully licensed clinicians as well as clinical trainees/associates who are seeking supervision under a licensed psychologist.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide individual, group, and couples therapy to adults (primarily Gen Z and Millennials) in a fully remote setting.

  • Work with clients navigating trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, identity exploration, cultural/family-of-origin stress, and relational challenges.

  • Utilize an integrative therapeutic approach informed by psychodynamic, IFS, somatic, relational, and trauma-responsive frameworks.

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation (intakes, progress notes, treatment plans) in a timely, organized manner.

  • Collaborate with the practice owner and participate in ongoing supervision or consultation as appropriate to your license level.

  • Deliver culturally responsive, affirming care that honors clients' lived experiences, particularly those with marginalized identities.

  • Optional: Contribute ideas to community workshops, groups, social content, or wellness projects aligned with Therapy Cove’s mission.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be either:

    • A fully licensed therapist (Psy.D., Ph.D., LCSW, LMFT, LPC/LPCC, LCPC, LMHC, etc.) licensed in Washington, DC or be PSYPACT eligible.

    • A clinical trainee/associate who is eligible to practice under supervision and must be physically located in Washington, DC.

  • At least 2 years of experience working with adults.

  • At least 2 years of experience or strong interest in trauma-informed care, including complex trauma, intergenerational trauma, and attachment-based work.

  • Experience in relational, psychodynamic, IFS, EMDR, and/or somatic therapies. Purely CBT therapists would not be a good fit with our practice.

  • Strong ability to build rapport with high-achieving, anxious, or culturally diverse clients.

  • Reliable internet connection and ability to work remotely in a HIPAA-compliant environment.

  • Comfort working independently while collaborating within a supportive team structure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with:

    • BIPOC clients, especially first-generation, immigrant, or South Asian, and Black communities.

    • High-functioning anxious clients who present “put together” but feel overwhelmed internally.

    • Relationship or dating patterns, attachment wounds, and people-pleasing dynamics.

  • Interest in long-term, depth-oriented therapy

Compensation & Structure

  • This is a 1099 independent contractor role with flexible scheduling and remote work.

    • Therapy Cove provides steady referrals, administrative support, and an established brand presence so you can focus on clinical work rather than self-promotion.

    • Therapy Cove handles intake coordination, billing support, and administrative systems so your energy stays with clients, not paperwork.

  • Opportunity to transition to a W-2 employee role with benefits after one year with Therapy Cove, based on mutual fit and practice needs.

  • Competitive per-session compensation (fee-split model) based on experience and license level.

    • Competitive per-session rates with clear growth potential based on caseload, tenure, and license level. Most clinicians earn between 100$–150$ per session, with consistent weekly referrals provided.

    • Trainees receive a structured path toward increased rates as clinical hours and competence grow.

  • Supervision is provided virtually for trainees located in DC at no additional cost.

    • Weekly or bi-weekly individual supervision for trainees (provided at no cost).

    • Ongoing case consultation and support for licensed clinicians.

    • Trauma-informed, depth-oriented supervision grounded in psychodynamic, IFS, and somatic frameworks.

  • You choose your schedule and caseload (minimum caseload may apply depending on role).

    • Design a caseload that fits your life. Choose your preferred days, session blocks, and client volume, with the option to scale up or down as needed.

    • At Therapy Cove, we value clinical depth, mutual respect, and sustainable work. We believe therapists deserve support, autonomy, and space to do meaningful work without burnout.

  • Access to practice-sponsored trainings, internal workshops, and recommended continuing education in trauma, attachment, IFS, and somatic approaches.

  • Opportunity for partial reimbursement for external trauma-focused trainings.

Who This Role Is Perfect For

  • Therapists who value depth, nuance, and identity-affirming work.

  • Clinicians who are relational and grounded but still love structure and skill-building.

  • Cycle-breakers who want to help cycle-breakers.

  • Someone who believes therapy is both science and soul work.
